When I became a mom 25 years ago, there were only a handful of resources about new motherhood. What to Expect had just come out and there was no Happiest Baby on the Block, BabyWise or Love and Logic. We couldn’t download Dr.Oz’es You Having a Baby from itunes because the internet didn’t exist. We didn’t have experts on sites like Pregnancy.org, CafeMom and BabyCenter advising us. We didn’t have chat rooms, podcasts or YouTube with information streaming into our homes and minds, 24/7.
While moms today are bombarded with information and expert advice, the uncertainty of embracing this all encompassing life change is still staggering. There is nothing as awesome and frightening as when you hold your child for the first time and realize that their life depends on you. You are the one who will nourish them-body, mind, heart and soul. You are the one who will dry their tears, kiss their boo-boos, delight in their successes and suffer their pains. This is what mothers do and it is the same now as it’s always been and will be.
Join me on my website, my blog, and Facebook www.facebook.com/realmomexperts as we explore the wild, wacky, wonderful world of pregnancy, new motherhood and beyond. Since motherhood doesn’t come with directions, I’ll help you create a roadmap from what I’ve learned as a psychologist working with moms the past 25+ years and 24 years experience in the trenches of motherhood. Here we go.
