Dr. sanford

I am a psychologist, author, educator and mom. An expert in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, I learned the importance of self-care in maintaining health and well-being while treating pregnant and postpartum moms, but kept searching for more effective ways to reduce anxiety, worry and self-criticism.

For the past decade, I have focused on mindfulness-based solutions to remedy stress and negative thinking.

My Story:

I was inspired to study stress reduction and write the Stress Less Live Better Program after experiencing several challenges in my own life.

In 2014, I had head surgery for a benign tumor in my inner ear. The recovery was tough and the mindfulness skills I learned made it bearable when I thought I would never feel better again. Then in 2015, I discovered a lump in my breast. I was extremely frightened and thought I could lose my life. During my surgery and radiation, I practiced mindfulness to ease the constant stress and tension in my body and mind.

In 2016, I got a divorce after 31 years of marriage and my mother was diagnosed with dementia. I have overseen her health needs and financial affairs since then. The last four years have truly been a wild ride and without my mindfulness skills I would have been unable to have peace of mind and enjoy my life through these stormy times.
